Ascenseur funiculaire de Strépy-Thieu
a mise en réseau des voies navigables belges au gabarit de 1350 tonnes a nécessité la construction d'un nouveau tronçon pour le Canal du Centre avec la création d'un ascenseur pour bateaux ; le plus grand jamais construit dans le monde ; rachetant une dénivellation de 73,15 mètres ! Cet ouvrage au caractère exceptionnel est désormais accessible au public.

A l'extérieur de l'ascenseur (côté amont), un belvédère muni d'une table d'orientation offre une vue imprenable sur l'ascenseur et la région qui l'entoure.
