The different categories of persons with special needs

Persons in a wheelchair

Because all or part of their lower limbs are:

The members of this family cannot walk.

Persons walking with difficulty

As its name suggests, we will find in this family a whole group of persons which have difficulties walking for a variety of underlying reasons.

All or part of the lower limbs may:

Blind persons

The persons concerned do not see anymore.

Visually impaired persons

This family groups the persons which have a residual vision more or less usable, depending on the illness and the light conditions.

It is often wrongly thought that the image perceived by visually-impaired persons is simply attenuated, less precise. But the image can also be deformed or even incomplete.

Deaf persons

These are the persons that do not hear anymore. This disability is hardly, or even not at all, visible.

Deafness causes communication problems. Deaf persons need a visual communication rather than an acoustic one.

Hearing impaired persons

This family groups the persons which have residual hearing more or less usable, depending on the case and the environmental conditions.

Their difficulties are similar to those encountered by the family of deaf persons. Including in regard to speech and the way of communicating, since they may never have heard properly.

Persons with comprehension problems

Most of the members of this family have a moderate intellectual disability that allows them however to maintain a relatively autonomous daily life.
